Amazon India Fashion Week SS17 Round Up

AIFW SS17 Round Up

It’s that time of the year, when we look forward to the trends that await us in spring summer next year. AIFW SS17 has come to a close and this time I’ve tried to put out the fashion week round up in terms of my favourite collections day-wise.

Day 1

Opening Show

The highlight of the first day was the opening show, which was a spectacular display of craft by some of my favourite designers titled ‘The Road to Chanderi’.

Akaaro by Gaurav J Gupta | Anita Dongre Grassroot | Atsu | Bodice | Divyam Mehta| Ikai By Ragini Ahuja | Joy Mitra | Ka.Sha by Karishma Shahani Khan| Paromita Banerjee | Payal Pratap | Prama by Pratima Pandey| péro by Aneeth Arora

I couldn’t believe how brilliantly the ‘chanderi’ fabric was showcased. From sarees to gowns, dresses to pallazos, skirts and crop tops; ‘chanderi’ was beautifully interpreted in its varied forms. And this made for a spectacular opening show.

Day 2

Anavila Misra

My top pick for Day 2 is Anavila Misra. Anavila’s collection ‘When I look back tomorrow’ was both timeless and spectacular. The highlight according to me, was the sarees with pockets – such a practical and functional concept.

The showcased designs were crafted in hand-woven textiles in subtle shades from beige and ivories to nudes and greys. The unconventional drape of the saree was quite a refreshing change.

Day 3

Rabani and Rakha

With elegant drapes in warm hues of peaches and nudes, Rabani and Rakha’s collection was a treat to the eyes. The asymmetrical flowy capes, dhoti pants and beautiful sarees with intricate designs, added a hint to glamour to the summer friendly colour pallette.

Day 4

Pankaj and Nidhi

Day 4 saw the talented designer duo Pankaj and Nidhi showcase some breath-taking designs, which I feel define summer glamour. ‘Chromatique’ was like one huge fashion party. From lemon yellow and candy pink to powder blue and metallic silver, this collection saw a spectrum of colours come alive. The details and texture on the summer dresses, skirts and tops, added a fun vibe to the garments.

Day 5

Dhruv Vaish and Sahil Aneja

Although the grande finale by the ‘guru-shishya’ JJ Vallaya and Alpana-Neeraj was a fitting end to the fashion week with the all the opulence and grandeur, I’d like to talk about the menswear collections by Dhruv Vaish and Sahil Aneja for Day 5.

Dhruv Vaish’s ‘Cubano’ was about geometric prints and patterns in olives, teals, camels, greys and browns. The collection included relaxed shirts, structured trousers and unconvential collars.

Sahil Aneja’s collection was all about layering with shirts longer than blazers and exaggerated sleeves, which is quite a unique concept. Also seen was a lot of stripes and plaid on the jackets and trousers. The colour palette comprised of whites, greys and blues.

So, that was my take on the recently concluded Amazon India Fashion Week SS17. Would love to hear what you guys thought of the new trends for spring summer.
