Fashion and You

Hello ladies! I’ve been thinking about this for a while now, ‘Why are fashion trends so important to us?’ There could be many reasons for our obsession with trends. I’ll try and list out a few:

1. We are ‘fed’ fashion trends in every way possible

So, have you ever wondered how we all seem to know what’s on trend and what isn’t! Well, it’s what we see the celebrities wearing to red carpets; it’s what we see in TV ads; it’s what we read in fashion magazines; it’s what’s on the racks of our favourite stores.

We are told what to wear and what trends to follow each season. And dare I say, most of us blindly follow what is fed to us, no questions asked.

A few months ago, the choker was the most trendy accessory and most of us rushed to buy a choker for ourselves. Then, there were off shoulder tops and off shoulder dresses last summer. All we could see in the shops was the ‘off shoulder’ trend.

2. Fashion Week trends are splashed all over the media

Can you believe how many fashion weeks happen each year? Well, there’s Spring-Summer, Resort/Swimwear, Couture, Feative, Autumn-Winter and I’m sure tons more.

With images from fashion weeks splashed all over newspapers, magazines, TV and the internet, we can’t escape the so called trends each season.

And even if we manage to escape all of this, we are reminded of these trends when we go shopping at the high street or even when we are shopping online.

3. FOMO

Lastly, one of the most important reasons  is the Fear Of Missing Out. The fear of not trying out new trends, of being left out or being labelled outdated. I don’t know what it is that doesn’t let us ignore these trends completely. Some of us may not blindly follow fashion trends but for most of us, either knowingly or unknowingly, keeping up with the new trends in fashion is a way of life.

What do you ladies think of keeping up with fashion trends?
